At least 12 Kenyan Police officers were killed after a powerful roadside bomb explosion hit their vehicle near its border along Somalia.
The explosion took place between Riba and Konton villages in Wajir town.
The bomb attack comes after Somali armed group al Shabaab claimed to have abducted 3 Kenyan soldiers during an attack on Kenyan armored personnel carrier near border town.
The group said in a statement posted on its affiliated media outlets that the militants seized control of Kontonka village located in the outskirts of Wajir town during the attack.
The statement added that 3 Kenyan Police officers were taken as a hostage and confiscated two motorbikes as well as military equipment.
Al-Shabaab vowed to continue attacks in Kenya, in revenge for its military involvement in Somalia, where 22,000 AU soldiers are battling the group for a decade.
